It’s finally here. Halloween is a distant memory, Thanksgiving has passed, and now, it’s finally time for Christmas!
Every year, it becomes more and more important to me that as a family we focus on the real reason for the season, Jesus. Without the birth of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, there would be no Christmas, no Santa, no Christmas carols, and no Christmas presents. Life is so much better with Christmas; everything is so much better with Jesus.
One way I make sure we keep the focus on Jesus during this holiday season is through the nativity story and making the nativity scene a staple Christmas decoration in our home. I think I have 5 different nativity sets and setting them up is definitely a highlight of Christmas decorating each year. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I stumbled upon The Creative Beaver and their cute little nativity sets.
Creative Beaver makes adorable figurines out of pine including farm animals, sea animals, dinosaurs, and many more. I, of course, fell in love with the nativity set and I instantly thought about how cute it would be to let the kids paint the raw wood and create a nativity scene that is special and unique to them.
I went to Michael’s and picked up a few bottles of washable kids paint and some paintbrushes, the kids could hardly wait until we got home to bust it all open. At home, I covered our kitchen table with construction paper and just let the kids go to town. No rules on what or how they could paint, I let them go wild and everything turned out so cute with such a personal touch that will help me freeze time, at least a little bit. The kids had a blast and it is something that we will be able to bring out year and after year.
